Dangers of pesticides have been documented, yet there are 5.1 billion pounds of pesticides used each year in the U.S. alone.
Pesticides in food such as diazinon, chlordane and a vast array of others are accumulating in our bodies effecting our nervous system, immune systems, hormones not to mention cancer. By the time we purchase our produce, the pesticides on the produce has done the job, the bugs are gone but the chemicals remain. (don't miss the dirty dozen below)
We wash our produce, some peel the outer skin (which is where a lot of nutrients are stored) but still, we can't completely remove the pesticides in food, especially when the pesticides are absorbed through the skin of our fruits and vegetables.
Pesticides are found in the seeds of many fruits and vegetables so not only is there pesticides on produce, we know it's absorbed through out the fruit or vegetable.
We are ingesting these chemicals so pesticide poisoning is accumulating in our bodies and our colons.
Not only do we have the dangers of pesticides on our produce, these crops are also providing byproducts for animals and, of course, we’re getting another dose from our meat products.
Think of the dangers of pesticides on the small bodies of children that are ingesting these pesticides. Their internal organs are still growing and developing as well as their immune systems.
There are critical periods in development that can be altered from these and other toxins and chemicals found in their environment.
I would be remiss if I didn’t speak about produce from Mexico, maybe it’s because I live in Arizona but I see a lot of produce from Mexico.
They have different standards and we need to look at what may be slipping through the boarders, to the grocery stores and onto our dinner tables.
In Mexico, Fertimex manufactures incredibly dangerous chemicals and the pesticide industry is booming there.
Unfortunately, the regulations are more lax, many pesticides banned in the U.S. are being used in Mexico, and then we turn around and buy their produce.
Pesticides like DDT, Aldrin, Chlordane and Clorobenzolate, are making their way across the border and on to our dinner tables.
That being said, we still have dangerous pesticides in the U.S.. Diazinon which was banned by the EPA due to it's high health risk, yet it is still being used. The following is from an article from the "Delta Farm Press" ......
"MANA has already invested millions of dollars in product stewardship and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future, Beardmore says, adding that the company will continue to listen to growers' needs and find ways to keep Diazinon in their tool boxes."
It's always about the money!!
So, to avoid the dangers of pesticides , (not to mention see GMO's) what are the best home remedies?
Of course, home gardens are the best remedies, nothing like a great organic garden started from organic seeds. See Natural Pesticides to help control your garden pest. (in the home as well!!) I realize not everyone has the time and/or space. (Although you can do some great patio planting!)
The next best option would be to buy organic at your local farmer’s market or grocery stores.
If that isn’t possible either, the following is recommended.
The Dirty Dozen
First of all, avoid the following, what is known as the dirty dozen:
Apples, celery, sweet bell peppers, peaches, strawberries, nectarines, grapes, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, blueberries and potatoes.
For other non-organic produce, clean well with either distilled white vinegar or bleach. Both are inexpensive, safe and effective in reducing surface dirt, wax and pesticide residues.
Be careful to use only plain bleach and according to the following proportions:
A drop of bleach in two cups of water and let your fruit or vegetables rest in there for approximately 10 minutes.
If you’re washing more, a small cap full in a full sink of water and rinse well after soaking.
Also, it is recommended to cleanse your colon to eliminate the accumulation of toxins and pesticides which seeps into your bloodstream, polluting your entire body.
As for the colon cleanse, I’ll let you figure that one out yourself if interested!
