Homemade Dish Soap

Bottle of soap

Homemade Dish Soaps are simple to make, saves you money, protects the environment and you can make them smell great!!!

It's so easy to make natural dish soap, especially with the following three dish soap recipes.  You'll turn into a DIY Dish Soap specialist and enjoy your own customized recipe, especially if you add essential oils.

You may wonder why homemade dish soap is recommended, especially since you rinse off the dishes, no big deal, right?   If you're going to have a toxic free home, why not a diy dish soap?

As you probably have guessed by now, commercial dish soaps are full of chemicals, some brands more than others and if you’re not wearing gloves, your hands are absorbing these chemicals.

You can expect the basics, Alkyl Phenoxy Ethanols (APEs), Chlorine, Dichloromethane (DCM), Diethanolamine (DEA), Dioxane, Phosphates, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate, Synthetic Fragrances and often Triclosan and other dangerous chemicals.

Also, if you’re wiping down your counter tops with your dish soap, you’re leaving these chemical residues on your counter top where eventually your food is in contact.

Another consideration, think about the needless chemicals that end up in our environment and how easy it is to avoid it.

We’ve already discussed in Cleaning with Chemicals  and Homemade Cleaning Products how these chemicals end up in our local waterways hurting our water supply, fish and wildlife.

Again, my goal is to help you have a toxic free home, with homemade dish soap, you’re not only protecting yourself and kitchen from chemicals, you’re doing your part to protect the environment.

On top of it all, you’re saving money while you’re at it.  So, why not make your own??

Heat grated bar soap with the 2 Cups of water until the soap melts. (do not let it boil) Remove from heat, let the mixture cool to room temperature then add in vinegar or lemon juice.

Dish Soap Recipe #3

1 Tablespoon Borax

1 Tablespoon grated Castile Bar Soap

2 Cups of boiling water

Click on Castile Soap, great for grating recipes

Optional:  About 15-20 drops of Essential oil(s) of your choice; consider the citrus oils (orange & lemon) that will help with grease and those with natural antibacterial properties.   (Tea Tree, Lavendar, Pine, Eucalyptus + Orange & Lemon)

Combine the grated bar of soap and borax in a mixing bowl then pour the hot water over the mixture, whisking until the soap is melted.  Once cool pour into a squirt bottle.

Give your dish soap a little shake before squirting and don't be discouraged with the lack of suds and bubbles.   Sodium lauryl sulfate is added to commercial soaps (cleaners and body care) to produce suds.  It does not contribute to the cleaning, just a needless chemical that we should get use to doing without.
