Homemade Grout Cleaners are easy to make, effective, affordable and void of any harsh chemicals making cleaning grout a simple chore.  Learn how to clean grout here!!

You don't need commercial grout cleaners to clean grout, with vinegar and baking soda you can get the same results without the dangerous chemicals. 

Vinegar and baking soda are the most basic eco-friendly cleaners and can handle the toughest of jobs making them a must have in every frugal and healthy home. 

Grout which surrounds our tile tends to absorb everything, dirt from being walked on, to mold and mildew in our bathrooms.

Some grout cleaners are needed for big jobs, some for just a small spill.  The following homemade grout cleaners and recommendations for cleaning grout, will make any job a breeze!


Cleaning Grout In A Small Area Or Spot Cleaning


Baking Soda Grout Cleaner

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons of baking soda

1 tablespoon warm water

Directions:   Mix ingredients in a bowl to make a paste and apply to the grout with an old toothbrush or a grout cleaning brush, scrubbing the grout to remove dirt. Rinse.

Baking Soda Plus (Grout Cleaner For Stubborn Stains)

You can use hydrogen peroxide instead of water for the above recipe or lemon juice which is a natural brightener.  

Either one, let it sit for a while before scrubbing.

Rinse or wipe clean with wet sponge.

Another Grout Cleaner Option:

If you don’t have any baking soda, apply white toothpaste on to the grout and give a good scrub with an old toothbrush or a grout cleaning brush which you can buy at a hardware store. 

Rinse or wipe clean with wet sponge.


Cleaning Grout In A Large Area


Grout Cleaner Spray

Ingredients:

1/2 C Baking Soda

1/3 cup of ammonia

1/4 cup of white vinegar

7 cups of water

Directions:   Mix well, pour into a clean spray bottle and spray generously the cleaner directly on the grout.

Let it sit for 30 minutes.

Use a toothbrush or grout brush to scrub the grout clean.  

If you're doing a big job, hardware stores have larger brushes with handles that make the job a lot easier. 

Rinse with a clean sponge when finished.


Cleaning Grout In Bathrooms


Cleaning Grout With Mold

If your bathroom grout has mold (because it is a high-moisture area), you can add 10 drops of tea tree oil to the Grout Cleaner Spray recipe above.

If you're using one of the Baking Soda Recipes above, you can add the tea tree oil to the paste as well.

After you scrub and rinse off, reapply a little solution to help prevent re-occuring mold and mildew.

Easy Grout Cleaning For Your Shower Floor

Spray your shower floor before you go to bed at night so it’s left wet.

Sprinkle dishwasher soap over the wet tile in your shower and leave over night. 

In the morning run the shower a bit before you get in, the grout should look much cleaner.
